Questions about university bomb shelters

As there have been some questions so we would like to inform students and staff that there are bomb shelters at the university and in nearby residential areas. There are currently no plans to fix up or otherwise clean out these shelters.

There is a shelter in the basement of Building 7, a leftover from the previous military era. The entrance is on the left side of the building when looking from the front.

There are also shelters in nearby residential areas. Individuals are not assigned to a special shelter but use the closest one.

There are currently no plans to fix up or otherwise clean out these shelters. This is something that only happens if the Government makes a decision to increase the degree of national preparedness. If that happens, there will be information provided through radio and TV.

If shelters need to be used, it must be possible to put them in order within two days. The property owner is responsible for ensuring that all the necessary equipment is available, that the shelter works properly and that they are opened up in the case of national increase in degree of readiness.

Each shelter must have a storage room containing equipment, tools and instructions so that the property owner, together with those seeking safety can help empty the shelter and ensure that, for example, water tanks, heating, ventilation and toilets are in place.

Find out where your nearest shelter is where you live and where you are during the day. Do this on the Swedish Agency for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (MSB) website, where there is a shelter map of Sweden. Here there are also answers to most FAQs about shelters. MSB will carry out an inspection of our shelter shortly.
